OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR

Oh, how we know this to be true…anytime we have tried to change lanes or back up.

It appears that you have so much extra room…so much extra time…

Now, think of the mirror as life…your future…

The objects…events, milestones.

From the time that tiny baby is placed in your arms, the milestones are THERE.  They appear so far off in the distance, but they are close…MUCH closer than they appear.

In the blink of an eye you have…first smile, first tooth, first time rolling over, sitting up.

Now here comes crawling, talking, walking, CLIMBING (that one is fun).

Before you know it, your baby is in Kindergarten and losing her first teeth.

Sure, she will be eight next week, but TOMORROW, yes, it feels like TOMORROW, she will be driving a car and going on her first date.  My kids are still young, but former students of mine are starting to drive.  Others are getting married, having babies, buying houses, and adopting puppies.

Kids really do grow, right before your eyes.  Getting caught up in the day-to-day rigmarole, we lose sight of just how fast it actually does happen.  The days may feel long, but the years are short, so incredibly short.

James 4:14-15 (NIV)

14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

Life really is short in the grand scheme of things.  When hard times come along, it would do us all good to remember that “this too shall pass.” Really…it will.

Join me, friend, as we live for each moment that we are blessed with and take NOTHING for granted.

That picture that you see…that is my “almost” 8-year-old, taken yesterday.

Yesterday?

Yes, that’s how it feels to me, and tomorrow is closing in…fast.
